From the President...

When I was asked to sit on the newly formed Asset Development Committee about four years ago, I never imagined that I’d become so involved with the Humane Society – let alone become the Board President! But my experience on that first committee showed that I was able to influence the lives of animals who needed help and homes. The feeling of really being able to accomplish something on their behalf was a good one, and has motivated me to accept the challenge of being President of this terrific organization. My decision to accept the position was very much supported by my husband Wayne, who had been a member of the Board himself just a couple of years prior.

I was born in Fort Lauderdale and, like many of you, have always known about, and visited, the HSBC. I remember coming to see the dogs and cats here when the building was just a little cement house with exposed runs built on behind it. What a long way it’s come! And my goal is to help see it move ahead even further.

I’ve always been aware of the intense bond of friendship that can form between a person and an animal. I was reminded of this recently when a wonderful horse named Cannoli passed away. He was such a good and special friend, and provided so many people – including me – with many years of pleasure. Most of you who care enough about animals to read this magazine will understand that connection. My commitment to being involved with the Humane Society of Broward County and helping the animals stems from an appreciation of how very important they are in our lives.

I hope you’ll join me in doing all you can to help keep the HSBC on the path
of progress that it is currently on.

Sincerely,
