Happy Adoption Tales

Dear Humane Society of Broward,
I just wanted to thank you for finding me such a great home! I came to live with my friends, Frisco the Kid (on the right) and Pablo (middle) about 6 months ago. We went to the Bark, Wiggle and Splash event at Quiet Waters Park the weekend before last to play in the water, and that is where this picture was taken. As you can see, I found a loving family and am happily adjusted to living with them, even if they do have 3 cats, who I occasionally pester when mom isn't looking! Mom takes me and Frisco to the Happy Tails park almost every day and I have a special cushion that mom made for me to sleep on at night. I am very happy in my new forever home!

Love,
Scoobie

The Healing Power of Animals,
I just wanted to share my story of the wonderful healing power animals have. My husband & I just recently lost our two beloved cats - Shasta on 10/3/06 (she was 13) and Bosco on 12/12/07 (he was 12), and I was really unsure if I wanted another cat in my life after losing Bosco. We have our dog, Cooper, who's almost 6 yrs old, and we love him so much. He's a wonderful dog - a mixed breed w/Great Dane, Lab, Akita - a BIG dog! But, I had always had cats in my life since I was a little girl, and it was so weird not having a kitty to snuggle with & play with. My husband saw how much I was hurting & kept suggesting we go to Humane Society & "just take a look." I had adopted Bosco from HSBC in 1996, and he was such a wonderful & very special cat. After a couple of days, I finally gave in & decided to just go & look. Well, we found 2 of the cutest little calico kittens, sisters "Holly" and "Jolly" who were only 8 weeks old. Even though I was still grieving over the loss of Bosco, everyone told me it would help to get another cat. So, after our visit & play time with them, I just fell in love with them & we brought them home on 12/14/07. And we're so glad we adopted both sisters - we just couldn't separate them. We renamed them "Cali Sue" & "Izzie Boo" (after my favorite show, Grey's Anatomy), and they have brought so much joy & laughter back into my life. I still miss my Shasta & Bosco & will always remember the many years I had with them, but I'm so happy that I was able to open my heart again to 2 little kitties who needed a home. What wonderful healing powers they have! It's always hard losing our beloved pets, but the joys & unconditional love they bring you far outweigh the pain of the loss!

THANK YOU! - Susan & Ron Cramer

Cali & Izzie

My story is as follows,

I used to live in Fort Lauderdale and when my dog Patchie died from cancer I had decided it was way too painful to go through that all over again EVER, but then six months later I turned fifty and my friends decided that it was time and told me they taking me out for the day, I thought for lunch somewhere smart, went out got nails, feet and hair done and dressed to the nines.

BUT, THEY TOOK ME TO BROWARD COUNTY ADOPTION CENTRE. WELL, long story short …

WELCOME CANDIE (Her name there was Teddy)
Candie it seemed had been abused as I later discovered - both back legs broken - shattered in pieces and in-operable.

CANDIE now lives in Cape Town SOUTH AFRICA, AND EVEN THOUGH THE VETS HERE SAID SHE WOULD NOT LIVE TO FOUR YEARS OLD DUE TO HER LEGS BEEN SO BAD, AND HEAVENS KNOWS WHAT OTHER ABUSE SHE WENT THROUGH AS FOR MONTHS SHE HAD NIGHTMARES.

Candie has now made it to EIGHT YEARS OLD - Candie has no less than 11 Television commercials in her resume and has been the sweetest, most loving and an angle sent to me.
She is character of note and with sense of humour.

Last week she did a tv show for our local tv here in South Africa on adopted pets and giving them a second chance.
This she did free in conjuctiojn with the Adopt a Pet Society here. This was to show people what love and attention can do for an adopted dog, and to please give those in the shelter a second chance too.

Once I get the DVD from the tv People I will have a copy made for you and mail it to you.

In our case not at all sure who chose who or who rescued who, THANK YOU BROWARD COUNTY for giving me the LOVIEST, SWEETEST AND KINDEST DOG I HAVE EVER OWNED.

Candie is border collie/bassette mix and has both personalities and I never know which one I am waking up to, could be the lazy, stubborn bassetter hound, or the agile playful border collie so everyday is different in my home, and what fun we have.

Kind regards,
Melanie and Candie Friedman
